Fixing Our Roads and Prioritizing Pedestrian Safety

Washington, DC is unique in the commuter scene, as it offers a large array of free and paid parking, encouraging business and tourism. However, we must work to mitigate the amount of vehicular traffic and provide incentives for using public transit, or alternate modes of transportation. Additionally, we must work to improve the quality of our existing vehicular infrastructure.

I will work to:

  • Close select streets, and develop them into community spaces.

  • Ensure DCDoT paints our streets appropriately, marks crosswalks, develops pedestrian safety measures, such as integrated barricades,  and ensure that all signs are visible to vehicles.

  • Develop ADA infrastructure, such as audio, visual, and sensory crosswalks.

  • Increase lighting and safety for high-traffic bridges. and overpasses

  • Support DC's no turn on red law.

  • Enforce speeding and traffic violations in the neighborhood.

  • Protect our children in schools, by installing improved traffic safety devices.

  • Encourage the development of paid parking in the neighborhood, whilst retaining a lot for business employees to park for free.

* Many of these policies were developed and influenced through conversations with Sean A. Maiwald, MPP. Thank you for your partnership, Sean.
