Ending Gun Violence

Each year, over 40,000 Americans die in gun-related incidents. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens, and Washington DC now has the highest rates of gun homicides in the nation. Mass violence has robbed my generation of our childhoods and cut many of our friends' lives short. Our nation is in crisis, and gun violence is a rampant epidemic for which politicians lack the willpower and legislative courage to find a solution. They have failed.

That's why I support a comprehensive approach to ending gun violence.  I commit to working with both local and national Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) Organizations that have developed, and continue to champion common-sense GVP solutions.

Since I was 15, I've been fighting to end gun violence, and I won't stop now.

I will work to:

  • Require comprehensive background checks for all firearm sales.

  • Require reasonable training and licensing for all firearm owners in the District of Columbia.

  • Ensure that DC Government and Federal funding is spent appropriately, and advocate for an increase in funding for DC Gun Violence Prevention public research.

  • Develop a Ward-wide task force to end gun violence, of which membership is accurately representative of the population it serves.

  • Develop a comprehensive District and Ward-wide public safety plan in partnership with local partners, the Attorney General and Member(s) of the Council.
